Additional Garmin GPSMAP 276C GPS Receiver Information

The GPSMAP 276C is right at home on any surface of your boat or even on the dash of your automobile. This portable plotter features a bright color TFT display for easy sunlight-readability. For land navigation, its auto routing capability allows you to select a destination and get turn-by-turn directions. You asked for voice prompt guidance, you’ve got it! When used with the optional 12-volt / speaker cable, the GPSMAP 276C will tell you when you need to turn and how much farther you need to go. In addition to built-in basemap detail, the GPSMAP 276C accepts data from MapSource CD-ROMs, including BlueChart for offshore detail, Recreational Lakes with Fishing Hot Spots for detail of selected inland lakes, and City Select for street-level maps. (City Select is included in an optional auto navigation accessory pack).

What Customers Say About Garmin GPSMAP 276C GPS Receiver:

We use this for navigation whle fishing and boat camping in southeast Alaska. very little clearance between the mount and the plug. And nickel and dime is a gross understatement. User interface is fairly simple and installtion was a snap if you know anything about wiring diagrams and splicing wires into existing electrical or established fuse panels. Garmin Blue Charts and a proprietary storage device ended up bringing the total of this little package to almost $800, which I think is deliberately over-priced. Really not hard at all. Even though it has a small screeen, it serves us very well, and we like how easy it is to take in and out of the boat, which would allow us to use it on the highways if we had any. and 2) while not a complaint about the product per se - I really don't like how the maker - Garmin - nickel and dimes you to actually get up and running.

Built-in Antenna makes it even easier but could limit reception in some vessels. While I give the unit a solid 4 stars for it's function, ease of use, portability, battery life and overall features, I do have a couple gripes. 1) The power cable is hard to insert when the unit is in the mounting device. After paying for the unit, you can expect to spend another $ 200 on software and storage for your desired application. The safety of my family is well worth the money but I think Garmin thinks much too much of its products.

I recommend buying now with the equipment 1 memory card that can be burned to the maps. This is the best handheld GPS that I know. The battery which is great because it has a safe load for a long time depending on their size. The size of the display is very good, very large can show many details. I did the crossing of Angra dos Reis to Rio de Janeiro at night and feel much confidence and traffic in the middle of many islands with the orientation of the maps that I loaded in the GPS.

Nice unit, does everything well. After third use, the voice disappeared, unit back to Garmin for replacement. Second week and waiting.

This claims to be "perfect for land or water" in its description, but that is not the case at all. I took this deep-sea diving (I was hunting for monsters), and as soon as I got underwater the unit completely stopped working. I called the customer service, and they said it was "user error". Me and my new monster pets are very upset.

Garmin has to be the best GPS available. I would like to have the option to increase the size of the font, but that is not available to the extent I need for motorcycle use. It is the only one I buy, and this is my fifth unit. It is fast to aquire satellite data, and will position you within feet of where you are. Rugged and reliable, if just a little over price; but then you are paying for the Garmin name. Software was easy to install on my GPS.
